In September, I received an email from a long lost high school friend of mine. She had kept up with me on Facebook (yay social media!), and asked if I could shoot her step sisters senior portraits.

After seeing a couple images of Katie, I had an idea! I needed a chair. But not just any chair, an ornate one with in a cool color. I knew this instantly. I wish I knew where my little creative zaps come from, but I really don’t. I just saw it in my head: field, flowers, fall, chair. It made sense. I knew exactly what I wanted it to look like. I know the furniture in the middle of know where look is quite popular right now, but I wanted to try for myself and see if I could put my own spin on it.

Then, I thought about my own senior year of high school, (and no we won’t talk about how long ago that was). I thought about all the things I wanted to learn, all the outrageous plans I had, (some of which actually came true!), what I felt about my future, and how it really felt to accomplish something so huge at such a young age. Graduating high school really is a cool thing when you break it down. At 18, think about how you look at the world vs now. Think about all the different ideas your eyes are open to. Possibilities are endless. You are starting you adult life. I set out to convey these emotions in Katie’s senior session.

Katie also brought along this quote from Ghandi that I totally loved!

Thank you Katie for letting have full creative freedom and capture your beauty, and good luck at Michigan State in the fall!
